Poppie

She is young (between 16 and 25), speaks Afrikaans and is usually blonde. She is not very bright, but that doesn't really matter because daddy will support her until she finds herself a rich husband. Loves nothing better than meeting her friends at the mall for a shopping spree or to sit and gossip over coffee at Mug&Bean. Likes to look pretty. Will never catch her without her golden credit card.

Inland Surfer

Lives 600km from the ocean, but still hasn't realised it. In permanent vacation mode. Hasn't been for a haircut in months and nobody is sure when he last had a shower. Dressed in boardshorts, volcom shirt and flip flops all year round. In lack of a beach, he can usually be found at the skate park. Will never be caught moving faster than a snail's pace.

Yuppie

Young professional, most likely working in the IT industry. Fashion concious and stylish. Always up to date about the latest gadgets. Drives anything that allows him to travel at 200km p/h on the N1. In his leisure time, you will find him trying out new pic up lines in some fancy cocktail lounge. Will never be caught without his cellphone.

Welcome to Gauteng: the smallest province, right at the heart of South Africa. Come and meet some of the colorful citizens that live in this mixing pot of cultures.

This blog is meant as a personal illustration project that shows some of the Gauteng stereotypes. If anybody feels offended by what I wrote or drew, I apologize. I did not mean it that way. The characters are just how I observe them.
